Patricia Ferguson's Profile
Patricia Ferguson BSc (Hons) Herbal Medicine
Consultant Medical Herbalist
Hello. My name is Patricia Ferguson. I graduated as a qualified Medical Herbalist from the University of Westminster with a 2:1 honours degree in 2004.
Herbalists are trained in the same diagnostic and clinical examination skills as doctors and study many of the same subjects such as anatomy, physiology, pathology and pharmacology. To qualify to practice, we must complete 500 hours of clinical training and pass a final clinical examination, under the scrutiny of three examiners, including a G.P.
At the moment, I am doing some further studies with the North American Institute of Medical Herbalists.
I have a special interest in Liver & Colon health and in practice emphasise the importance of cleansing the waste-eliminating organs as the basis for health recovery.
In the last few years my interest in raw and living food has grown and as a Raw Food Chef I now incorporate raw food preparation classes into my practice. Living food is rich in nutrients and enzymes and it is this that gives it the ability to heal and rejuvenate the body.
Along with my interest and involvement with raw food, I find that I am becoming more aware of green issues and green living. I have had an allotment for the past three years and perhaps this has influenced me, along with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's TV programme, River Cottage, of one day owning a smallholding (without the pigs and chickens!) and becoming more self-reliant.
Greenleaves Herbal Healthcare is based in South Norwood, South-East London.
